We are having such a nice time in Duluth (again with the beautiful weather) that we've decided to stay until the fun stops or Sunday, whichever comes first.

There has been lots of rock throwing (I love that sound of a big rock plopping right into the lake), camping in grandpa's back yard (complete with marshmallows, hot dogs & a 5am thunderstorm), kayaking, a trip for me down grandpa's stairs (see above) (please excuse the ratty toenails & flip flops) , a failed beach attempt with Ruby on a really hot day right at her nap time (duh!), strolling (limping) down the lakewalk, a fabulous lunch date for Patrick & I, Shamrock Pizza, fun/crazy family bed, and trips to Gooseberry Falls and Brighton Beach.

Have you ever been to Duluth? It's kind of awesome. xoxo

and we're off

I put a few new pictures on flickr.

We are headed for Duluth now, not sure when we'll return. Happy weekending to all! xoxo

p.s. This was James' first note, written on his own. (he learned to spell silly last week) His little handwriting is one of my favorite things in the world.

good news

DSC01995, originally uploaded by stephaniekg.

Definitely better this morning.

Have let go of own personal desires for the greater good.

ha! :)

Look at this picture of Rubles. What a little nugget she is. They both ended up in our bed this morning around 6:30. After playing with my hair for a while (ruby) and mumbling about magnetix (james) we all fell back to sleep until after 8:00.

Yesterday wasn't really about them at all. Just me being disappointed and needing a break. I'm so glad Patrick is on vacation for the next week.

Must go plan day. Have a good one! xoxo

Oh my. I hit some sort of wall today, hard. It all started out good and then our plans for the weekend changed and Ruby wouldn't take a nap and it all just went to hell from there. I tried to recoup several times and finally managed to get us out of the house. We ended up at McDonald's where I bought my children happy meals and $1 pairs of McDonald socks so they could climb in the plastic toddler tubes. ?!

Today was one of those days where I just wanted to pout. Nothing was how I wanted it!!! Me! Me! Me! I tried for a while only to be reminded that it's not really very satisfying. sigh. Now typing it all out, saying it out loud to Patrick, and getting my kids to bed makes me feel better. So now instead of pouting I want to forgive myself, think about what is really important and thank God that tomorrow is a new day. And thank Him twice as much for getting me through this one.

So, I know you're all wondering how our trip to the fabric store went. Well, it was very successful in that Heidi picked out some beautiful fabric for her mei tai. It was very horrible in that Ruby had the mother of all screaming fits at the end and I had to whisk her out of the store while dozens of sets of eyes watched. Thankfully she calmed quickly once we were outside so I could follow suit. When Heidi came out a few minutes later bearing a cold Diet Coke I could have kissed her. On the lips. :) From there we went to the playground and had a really nice afternoon talking while the kids played.

I did forget to eat much of anything all day until I came down with a killer headache around 4pm. A huge chicken, avocado & tomato sandwich took care of that (almost immediately) so I packed up a supper for Patrick & the kids, dropped them off with him, and went to craft night at Zoe's.

A new friend I met through Zoe, Kari, had asked if I would trade her a Bloom t shirt for one of her beautiful beaded/knitted bracelets. Heck yeah! Last night I got to bring her said shirt, the shirt for Zoe that she had won, and another yellow t shirt that Zoe wanted to buy if it fit her. It fit alright, like a glove! I can't even tell you how fun it was to see them all try on their t shirts! And they liked them and want me to make them more! Awwww, thanks guys. Later I asked if they'd put them on again for a picture. Mary (on the left) is wearing the shirt Zoe won so Zoe could show off her rack & tiny waist in the yellow one. :) Kari is on the right. Don't they look cute?
The kidlets and I are staying home today so I can rest. I always seem to like a day at home after a busy one. Does that mean I'm old? So be it. My house is also trashed, along with the yard, so there is plenty to do once I am sick of resting. (ha!)

I found this hand carved wooden bowl at d&s a while back and fell immediately in love. I filled it with a bunch of sea shells & rocks that I've collected over the years and the kids love going through it and adding new stuff that they find outside. (like old pens & beer cans) I was leaving it down where they could dig in it whenever they wanted but have you ever stepped on a petrified clam shell? So not good. So so so much worse than a lego.

ahhhhhh CHOO

I cannot stop sneezing. For the first time I think I'll be taking a Claritin due to outside stuff, normally it's just when I'm around cats or dogs. geez.

We are meeting Heidi at the fabric store. 5 kids and one bag of licorice...we should be alright.

Here are a few pictures of the last couple days:

found this at d&'s chipped a little but I LOVE it
also found this old pie plate that day
she looks so sad but really she just doesn't want me to change her diaper

all about the silly faces these days

I just have to add that I got groceries at Woodman's last night and couldn't believe how cheap everything seemed. See, I've been shopping in town for the last month probably (aside from a couple trips to Cub) and thought stuff was a little more expensive but the cost of driving to Madison would be more. UH-UH. I was nearly euphoric throwing stuff in my cart and my family was so excited to have some of our normal staples back like soy yogurt! Weeeee!

and the bloom winner is...

I tried to get a screen shot of the randomly generated number between 1 and 4 (ha!) but you'll just have to take my word on it. :) Congrats, Zoe, and thank you so much to those of you who entered and emailed me.

it's all good

Whatever odd thing was going on this morning has ended. Man, that felt creepy!

I wanted to pop in quickly because I won't be around much tomorrow. We are leaving early in the morning to attend a birthday party for a very special one year old. After that we'll come home so I can pick up the house a little as I found out that 2 of my beloved cousins are stopping by for the night on their way to Milwaukee! Yay! I love my cousins and love, love, love to see them. The lucky girls are traveling sans kids, too! As much as I love the wee ones it is always fun to have time to catch up without them around. (except for mine, of course, since they live here but Patrick, God bless him, will be around.)

Patrick is going on a wreck dive on Saturday in Milwaukee. It's been canceled twice so I am glad he finally gets to do it even though we will all miss him terribly.

I took this picture of my sweet wind chimes earlier thinking that I really needed to find a new place for them.

Late this afternoon Ruby plucked each of those center things right off, rendering it mute. sigh. Guess that problem was solved for me, too. (haha)

And, just because I love it, James' lower back:
so sweet.

Last night at bedtime, rocking Ruby:

R: Let me down, mama.
S: No, honey, it's time to go night night.
R: Let me down.
S: Shhhhhh. Should I sing one more song?
S: ohhhhhh. right.

Tonight at bedtime, tickling her belly with my head:

R: I'm not going to bed!
R: Move your head from me!

Ruby definitely has 2 of her canines through now and MAN has she been back to her sweet old self the last week. It's been like vacation around here! Oh sure, she still shrieks and throws fits and begs for licorice but it's nothing like it had been during our previous dark moments.

Alright, I am off to bed with my big pile of library books!

I somehow got my birth control pill stuck in my throat this morning and while it MUST have gone down, it has felt horrible for the last few hours. Like there's a big lump in there. I think it must have started dissolving in the wrong place and given me heartburn or reflux or something awful. Lying down on my side seems to be the most comfortable position, great for reading, not so great for mothering. It is getting better now, thank God, as the kids are really ready for their lunch.

Hopefully more later. I sure hope my daily vitamins go down okay.
kidding! ack.

at the house

I had been going back and forth in my head for a few days whether I should have Kelsey come today or not. We are kind of tight with money for the next week and Patrick's going on that dive trip on Saturday that costs a fair amount. But then I thought, I deserve a break! But then I thought, but I don't really feel like I need one this week. But then I remembered the shoes I needed to return and the solo Saturday ahead and also didn't want to cancel with her at the last minute so I just left it alone. I did pray about it, because I pray about most stuff that is on my mind for any length of time, and asked God to let me know how it should go...just to take care of it, please, because I couldn't make up my mind. Kelsey didn't show up this morning. How's that for an answer? I love when stuff like this happens. It might seem like a coincidence to some people, or even silly to pray about something so small, but that's the stuff that makes me feel so loved by Him. He cares about even the smallest details of my life.

I did call Kelsey (to confirm for next week...I'm no fool!) and she called me back a while later saying she had left me a message on Monday and was so sorry I didn't get it...her cousins from California were still in town and the all went to the Dells today. Zoe is laughing right now...I am not the best at checking my answering machine. I am getting better though, and check my caller ID log a lot...I never saw her number on there.

Anyways, the day didn't go as I had planned but I wasn't even the least bit surprised when she wasn't here by 11:10. The house was all cleaned up, the pool ready outside...I had set myself up for a really fun morning with the kids.

There are many parts of my life that I don't talk about here as much as I'd like to, mainly because I don't have the time. My faith is one of these parts. Another reason I don't talk about it a lot? I don't feel like I am the best example of a Christian woman. I don't read my bible every day, I don't go to church every Sunday, I like to swear (gasp!)...I'm afraid of coming across like a hypocrite, you know? But I also know that not a one of us is perfect, and that the one thing I do feel utterly confident in saying is that God loves me (and you), swear words and all. (I'm not saying he approves!)

Was that too cheesy? Oh well, hasn't been the first time. :)

at the playground

After a reeeeeealy long night (each child waking up 3x, at least!) I decided we needed to get out and meet some friends. We went to the playground by the zoo. My kids wanted to eat before getting down to business.
boy train
Ruby kept calling this little girl a kook head. We might tease too much at home.

An unexpected bonus...the Art Cart was visiting and James got to help paint the famous shoe slide!

The leaders were very patient with him even though he was their last painter before lunch and really wanted to ask them about everything. (You can find their daily schedule here)

It's always a treat to see this little muffin. He only has eyes for his mama.

I could end this post here but I would be leaving out how James left the zoo bathroom without asking me and I scolded him and he stuck his tongue out at me. So we left. I don't have any pictures of that part.

I was feeling too poor to have Kelsey come over today (50 clams) but kept thinking of how Patrick was going to be in Milwaukee for a dive trip all day on Saturday. Suddenly, I remembered a pair of shoes that I needed to return that would all but foot (ha!) the bill for the sitter today. She'll be here in a while and I am really looking forward to a little break.

I have finally committed to my new camera and cut the tag off of it. I have decided I really like it and am soooo happy to have it, it just needs some more memory. (on my list for today!) I'm going to sew myself a little camera case soon.

Have a good Wednesday. xoxo
