one of those weekends

dsc05072, originally uploaded by stephaniekg.

This was one of those weekends that was just too good. So good that the house is a total disaster and the laundry hasn't been thought of (until now) since Friday. (is there a load in the washer? uh oh.)

there was...

perfect weather
a birthday (patrick)
farmer's market
kettle corn (see above)
blueberry pie
walking (see above)

and last, but certainly not least, resting.

good night. xoxo

moving on

James had his preschool graduation last night and it was pretty sweet. They sang some songs, brought roses & cards over to the parents, and said the Pledge of Allegiance, all while wearing little blue caps & gowns.

James cried a bit over not seeing Miss Carley ever again (his words) and gave her a goodbye kiss on the lips! Little does he know that she might show up this summer as a mystery guest babysitter. :)

Wiggly Bridge, originally uploaded by stephaniekg.

I purchased some hazlenut coffee last week and every time I pour a cup I immediately think of my sister/iced coffee from the dunkin donuts drive through/mass/summer.

I've been lucky enough to visit her so many times since she's been out East. By myself, with my husband, with my mom, with my Ruby and this summer, with the whole family, for her wedding.

Her & Ronan are thinking of moving to Tennessee after the wedding and while I am ALL ABOUT THAT, because she'll be within DRIVING DISTANCE, I will miss those trips out to see her. Of course I can still visit the East Coast...but it's not going to be the same without my seester.

Tennessee, you've got a lot to live up to.

p.s. this is a favorite pic of mine from nearly 2 years ago.

the weekend

first beach glass, originally uploaded by stephaniekg.

My mother was here last weekend and we had such a nice time. A few quick highlights:

1. walking & playing at picnic point. gramma taught james about beach glass. ruby stripped naked and splashed.

2. just hanging out at home on Sunday, doing yard stuff & eating pancakes. (I have fallen in love with my yard this year, even without a patio or deck, and it was fun to see that my mom feels the same way.)

3. good church service on Sunday night. funny. powerful.

4. movie date with my husband. dinner date with my husband.

5. exercising with my mom. she did 3 whole miles with Leslie her FIRST time. Go Mom!!

6. receiving plants from friends and being able to pass some on

7. first fire in the backyard. kind of crazy but still fun. (right, mom?)

There are a few more pictures over on flickr. I have to go drink another cup of coffee with my girl. James' last day of school is tomorrow so this is the end of Ruby/Mama time for a while. I am really looking forward to getting into a new summertime routine with all of us, though. It will be good. xoxo

p.s. Mom...Ruby is still missing you. :( sniff.

one of my new favorite things

clothespin bag, originally uploaded by stephaniekg.

One day a while back my friend Wendy told me how her Grandma used to carry her clothespins in a bag across her shoulder. I thought this was brilliant and have made a few of these simple bags now. It is so nice to just reach down to get or drop a pin while I'm doing the laundry. I like the bags that hang on the line, too, but I left mine outside last year and my wooden pins got moldy. Also, on these single pole lines they don't slide around all easy like they're supposed to.

Just a little laundry love for this Tuesday afternoon.

bookies & cookies

oatmeal pecan chocolate chip cookies...1.5 pts each,

I reinstated afternoon reading time a couple of weeks ago and we all think the cookies are a nice addition. Previous to the reinstatement I had asked James if he wanted to read a book one day and he replied, "Why?" nice. (in my defense...Patrick reads to him at bedtime)

An added proud moment from about 5 minutes ago:

J: Mom, I'll pray for you if you let me play video games.

(we talked yesterday about how nice it is to pray for others. not quite what I meant.)

early morning celebration

good thing we're having a party or I'd be putting these up all day

when no one else thought she was that cute (2 days old):James meeting her for the first time (with Grandma holding him, just in case):
Grandpa meeting her for the first time:
He looked at her and said, "Well, looks like you did it again." xoxo
James, trying to take it all in:

at around 5 weeks:
my tiny girl:
5 weeks: still trying to figure things out, as you can see: (how is it possible that I look SO much younger? It's only been 3 years?!)
