blogging begets blogging

How's it going?  Did you all have good long weekends last weekend?  I hope so.  Ours was very nice.

On Saturday we went to the gym with the kids.  We put them all in the play area and exercised together.  Watching Patrick run on the treadmill for 30 minutes was pretty hot.  :)  It's so funny to hug him and feel like I'm hugging the 21 year old Patrick.  Okay, he's not that ripped yet (he was in the Army at that time and stayed lean and muscley for many years...until we had kids.  :)  ) but he is doing sooooo good.  I think he'd be happy to keep working out but eat a little more and maintain where he is now, he just needs to see where some things are health-wise.  Watching him run inspired me to actually get started.  Remember I signed up for that 5K?  I was soooo scared to try running, I'm not sure why.  Probably because I knew it would be hard and I'm very scared of injuring myself.  But watching him run that whole time, when he was doing nothing exercise-wise a couple of months ago, inspired me to try it.  For a few times I just walked my first mile and then alternated walking and jogging intervals.  Last night I downloaded a couch to 5K app that notifies me, over my music, when to switch from walking to running...it was very cool.  And very hard.  The speed I move can hardly be called running but whatever.  :)

The remainder of Saturday was spent looking at cars, going to a park and grilling.  On Sunday Patrick went to work for a while and met us at 11:15 church.  The kids and I watched Coraline (almost...didn't see the end as we had to get ready for church) that morning and loved it.   After church we came home for lunch and hung out until our sitter came at 6pm.  Patrick and I went out to dinner and for a walk and to the bookstore.  It was a really nice night.

((There was a totally awkward moment on Sunday afternoon involving James unintentionally crashing a family party at a friend's house.  He went to see if the friend could play and came home a while later to say the Dad invited him to stay but he needed his epi pen as there was a lot of food out.  Dad said I could come over, too.  Okay, no.  Not going to a party I wasn't invited to (an engagement party) but now James was foaming at the mouth to play in the bouncy house/slip n slide, etc. He said Dad had invited him by himself, too, and he wouldn't eat anything.  I walked back over with him waited a few minutes to talk to the Mom and she seemed obviously annoyed "Well, I can't watch him but he can stay!" and James was already in the bouncy house so I told her he wouldn't eat anything and I'd be back really soon.  She hardly looked at me.  Now, this is his scout leader and I've always felt like we liked each other and that she really likes James so it was weird.  I went home for 20 minutes and went back and got him.  Thank God he left without putting up a fight.  It was all just sooooooo uncomfortable.  I think the Dad probably invited James to stay without Mom knowing and Mom was pissed about it.  I felt awful.  I understand her not wanting to think about one more thing (James eating something) during a party when she had all those people there.  Should I send her an email and apologize for the whole thing or just let it go?  Her attitude toward me surprised me a little but it must have just been because it was such a hectic day.  Good thing this didn't happen during my PMS week or I would have been wrecked over it.  :)  ))  /awkward

Monday was spent at home.  I got 20 items in my store (finally!) and we played lots of games and went for a 2 mile walk.  Ruby was SO proud and asked if we could do 3 miles next time.  :)  There was a BAD storm that afternoon so we spent some time in the basement.  Thankfully there was no damage to our house but some of my friends got hit pretty badly.  (roof torn off, paving bricks ripped up, patio table smashed into patio door, etc.)  creepy.

Tuesday was back to school and I volunteered in Ruby's room.  I had a friend over for coffee after that and in the afternoon the kids and I went to get some groceries and stuff at Target.  When we got home I dropped the van at the auto body shop for an estimate.

Oh yeah.  Patrick hit a small deer coming home with the kids on the night of my jewelry party!  Thank God no body was hurt.  The van, however, has $3000 worth of damages and will be fixed next week.

Yesterday I babysat until noon and spent the afternoon getting ready for Patrick's birthday.  He was 41 yesterday!  We got him some new running gear...shirt, shorts, socks, and a few other things.  He seemed to really like it all and dinner (just spaghetti and salads) and his cake.  The cake looked like a hot mess but it was delicious.  I used this recipe but used butter instead of shortening.  That cake is in the fridge and did you know cold cake is one of my favorite treats?????  Today will be hard.  Patrick and I talked about having a piece together tonight so I am vowing to leave it alone today.  oh nooooooo.  what have I done??  :)  (I really love cold, dense cake.  yummY!)

The kids are all good.  Ruby was really naughty on Tuesday  (she THREW MUD inside my neighbors house.  WHAT????!!!!!) so she is grounded until tomorrow probably.  It did soften my heart a tiny bit towards my very naughty neighbor boy.  This is the naughtiest thing Ruby has done and it was a quick reminder of that parenting rule: Never think your kid won't do _________.  :)  I also thought she was picking my neighbor's flowers the other day but she had only been dead-heading them like my neighbor had taught her.  :)  Close one, Ruby.  Nicky is good.  Saying please and thank you and "welcome" now, sometimes.  Saying, "Hi Mommy" to me.  love.  James and a friend tried out and got accepted to the school talent show on Friday.  They were the only 2nd graders to make it and Kelly and I were totally surprised!  Haha!  They are doing magic.  Should be so fun to watch.  :)

Nicky graced me with a long sleep this morning but now he's up.  I've missed it here and do apologize for the lack of photos.

hi

Hello dear ones.

How are you?  I'm good.  My party was a lot of fun and I am definitely having friends over more often, no strings or jewlery attached.  That was my first (and probably last) product party and it was fine but made me feel kind of awkward.  Bygones!  Most importantly, I like my friends and appreciate that I have some really good ones.  :)  Almost everyone here ended up signing up for a 5K obstacle run called the Dirty Girl.  Wendy talked us all into it and I think it will be a lot of fun.  The running doesn't scare me so much because it's broken up by the 13 or so obstacles.  I've heard it's awesome.  I am totally happy to have a goal in mind.  I am still stuck at +4 lbs and it's totally for lack of trying.  I've been exercising but haven't been watching what I eat at all.  (hello, weekend of cupcakes, I'm looking at you.)  This week I am tracking on SparkPeople again and the limits feel GOOD.  I need some, you know?  The workouts feel good, as always, and I am really focusing on my arms.  My arms got so flabby over the winter!!  ugh.

Anyways.  I guess the jewlery should be here today and I'm so excited to deliver it and see my stuff.  I got 4 necklaces!  I love necklaces.  :)

Last night James went to a volleyball game with his friends and I took Ruby and Nicky to the Girl Scout Fiesta.  Nicky was a little turd, kept running away, so we left after about 45 minutes.  James' teacher talked me into bringing Nicky with to help their class make some ice cream this morning.  Should be fun.  ha!  :)  I suppose I will have 17 babysitters to help.  We are making this delicious ice cream this morning and another mom is coming in this afternoon to make cow's milk ice cream with them.  The kids are so excited!

Speaking of cow's milk.  James ate the cheese, unmelted, out of a pack of Lunchables the other day.  He just wanted to try it, so he did, and it was fine.  His mouth felt funny with the first bite but was fine after that.  Now I know that is not really cheese but it does have dairy in it, and is not melted or baked, so that was crazy!  I suspected this, though.  That it is now just an oral thing with him, like it is with certain fruits for me sometimes.  He hasn't tried anything since but this will not be forgotten...

Speaking of Nicky.  I could EAT HIM UP.  He is so freaking cute, I cannot tell you.  His little face and body are the cutest things in the world to me and I just love to watch him.  He is talking a lot and I think he's very funny.  (of course I do.)  :)  Whenever I bring him someplace, before I unbuckle him, I say, "Are you going to be a good boy, Nicky?" and he will nod his head yes.  Last night he answered emphatically, "I be good!"  love, love, love.  2 is a perfect age in so many ways.  Yes, he runs away but everything else is awesome.  Last night he requested the "blue milk", or soy milk, when I went to pour him cow's milk.  He is just learning his colors and gets lucky every now and then.  ;)  Also, probably not so cute to the casual observer, he shoots all sorts of things with a little finger gun.  When I tell him no he will point his little finger at me and make shooting noises.  It is so cute!  Can you tell he is the 3rd child?  James didn't even know what a gun was until he was 4.  Nicky has watched part of I-Robot.  sigh.  I know what 3 can be like, HEAVEN HELP ME, so I am enjoying the heck out of 2.

Enough of that.  I need to get him up now and get to school.  Wish me luck!

prepare for the onslaught

of photos. I was not gone for a week for no reason. Oh no. I was right here and riding my way through 7 days of birthday celebrations, house guests, baking and more baking, babysitting, volunteering, PMS, tons of laundry, shipping ebay, getting sick, hurt feelings, getting better, some thrifting, and a trip to Milwaukee! Awesome. :) Glad it's over. :) (well, some of it.)

First, last Tuesday morning, the birthday girl.  My sweetheart turned six!  Oh, Ruby.  We adore you.

At school that day they got to hold the baby chicks they've been watching as they hatch and grow up a little.
Then it was time for cupcakes!
That evening we celebrated in the backyard.

I made one of those colorful cakes like a few of my friends have.  It really surprised them and was a big hit.  :)  (and a huge freaking mess to make because I was in a hurry.)  :)
Nicky inspecting Grandpa's beer:
I was so happy to see my Dad.  He and a friend just came for the night but we had such a good time.  This is how I like our patio best...messy and full of people I love.
Later on:

Cue Wednesday and Thursday:  I babysat and then got very sick with a cold.  Nicky went to the sitters on Thursday and I stayed on the couch/in bed alllllll day.  It did help and I felt well enough to help distribute 400 flyers for the Boy Scout food drive after school.  (Not that I wanted to, mind you.  :)  )

On Saturday morning we headed to Milwaukee!  It was a gorgeous day and we first took a long walk along the lake.

I love this one of them laughing:
Then it was in to the Discovery World Museum.

Ruby stayed here for a long time just petting sting rays as they'd go by:
We sat for a bit while the boys were doing something.  I love her messy little self.  (It was super windy outside.)  :)
After the museum we picked up our cupcakes.  They were HUGE and DELICIOUS.  We ate one in the car right away (we all shared it) and then dug in at the hotel.

That night we went out to dinner and for a drive and swimming at the hotel next door.  huh??  When we checked they told Patrick the pool was broken and we'd have to use the one next door.  Big bummer for the kids.  I went up to the desk later on and said how disappointed we were and right away she offered me a free night and said we could go next door or they'd put us on the shuttle to their sister hotel.  We went next door and it was really no problem, we just didn't swim the next morning like we probably would have.

On Sunday, another gorgeous day, we went to the Children's Museum.  It was really cool and the kids LOVED it.  I don't know how much longer James will enjoy this kind of stuff so I want to take advantage of it.  :)

Outside, a gorgeous view.
MKE Art Museum where I am going to go before this ends.
You can barely see James but he was ROCKING out up on that platform.  There was a band playing and he loved it so much.  It was darling.  I love seeing him right here, at this age where he isn't holding himself back yet from showing whatever he is feeling.

Of course they played in the fountains again:
I didn't get pics of the other two because Patrick had gone to get the van and I was just keeping my eyes on Nicky.  :)  I know J&R won't run into the street.  Not this one.

And this was about 15 seconds after we buckled him in.  No joke.  The boy was tired.
And here was that box of cupcakes when we got home last night.  We sure enjoyed them!!
Here's their decal which I LOVE, of course.  :)
And here is Nicky out on the patio this morning.  Our breakfast consisted of graham crackers and sunbutter, coffee and milk.  We have no cereal, bread, yogurt of fresh fruit in the house.  :)  A trip to the store is on the agenda for later.
**********************************************************

I didn't do any ebay listing last week at all.  Just shipped what sold.  I hope to get some new listings up this week...maybe in a while when the boy lays down.

I'm also having a Lia Sophia party tomorrow night and am really looking forward to hanging out with my friends and having a glass of wine.  (or sangria!)  I wish I was having people over just for fun but this will be fun, too, and I made a promise to myself to have my friends over a few times during the summer.

Now to get that baby to bed.  Thank you if you got through all of that.  :)

xoxo

sold!

Good morning! Today I just copied and pasted info from my ebay page to share with you.  What I paid is at the top of each item in bold.  What I sold it for is over to the right.  I used ebay's free auction listing week to get rid of quite a few sloooow moving items.  I started them pretty low and offered free shipping on the really lightweight ones. I kind of nickel and dimed my way to a good couple of weeks but that's okay with me!  :)  (every once in a while.)

On a sad, bitter and angry note, I got my first negative feedback last night.  (well, I think I got one 10 years ago from another nutjob but that's old news)  This woman bought some used shoes from me that left marks on her ankles after she wore them.  Dye marks, I guess.  She accused me of dying the shoes. HAHA.  Whatever.  I apologized and offered her a full refund.  She accepted and then left me a negative feedback.  Sigh.  What a (INSERT REALLY MEAN WORD HERE).  I am obviously not refunding her $$ until I get the shoes back and see their condition.  She said she wore them to a wedding and I wonder if she got them really wet or something??  We'll see.  I did get those flip flops back (the day I wrote about them) and re-sold them that same day for $4 more.  :)  I am now hesitant to list more items...getting a negative really makes me sad.  I work so hard to be honest and find quality items for people.  sigh.

Anyways, here are my sales for the last couple of weeks.  In case you're curious, I've found that on average my profit is about 20% of the final sale price.
